Squirrel Pest Control - Make It Straightforward

By Helena Long

Squirrels are tempted to go into the home when access is simply obtainable. Trimming tree limbs that are near to the home and removing objects that squirrels could use to leap onto the roof or overhangs will help to manage squirrels from entering the home or other building.

Bird seed will attract squirrels. Removing bird feeders all together is a technique to keep squirrels at bay. Of course, many people love to feed and watch birds. If this is the case, move the bird feeder as far away from buildings as possible.

According to Do It Yourself Pest Control, there aren't any poison baits attainable on the market labeled "squirrel bait." Trapping squirrels and moved them 1 or 2 miles away is the most humane way to rid the home of the pests. Squirrels need to be released a long way from home or they'll find their way back. Seal up any holes or cracks that another squirrel might try to go into the home through.

Using Squirrel Traps for Squirrel Removal

Many alternative squirrel traps are available on the market. Once the trap is set up a good way to tempt the squirrel within is to add bait. Spread peanut butter over a cracker or a chunk of fruit and place it behind the trip pan.

Speckle 1 or 2 sunflower seeds or peanuts close to the door of the trap and 1 or 2 inside to help lure the squirrel within. If desired, press additional sunflower seeds or peanuts onto the peanut butter covered cracker or fruit. Relocate surrounded squirrels at least five miles away from home ideally near trees or woods.

Squirrel Control Options and Dissuasives

Look for clues as to where the squirrels have been, such as nests, droppings, and tunnels or holes used to go into the loft or other areas. Call a wildlife control expert or pest control service to seal up any entry points after squirrels have been caught and released. Look around as some firms offer guarantees.

An alternative to squirrel traps are squirrel controllers. Controllers can be mounted over entry methods and will permit squirrels to exit, but will prevent them from re-entry. When plagued with squirrels hungry for bird seed, give them a whisk on an automated spinning squirrel deterrent. Some variations have a motor which will start to spin when the squirrel's weight is noticed. The squirrel is spun off and quickly learns to leave the bird feeder alone.

Controlling the problem swiftly is the most suitable. If not looked after quickly, squirrels may begin to multiply causing more issues such as: damaging furniture, destroying screens, fleas, droppings, gnawing on structures, and so on. Prompt removal is suggested.
