Teething Signs in 3 Month Olds

By Maya Hunter

First time parents of babies in the 0-3 month range are rarely thinking about teething. In most popular development resources it is most commonly noted that the teething phase starts somewhere around the 6 month mark. Fussiness during this period is generally attributed to gas or other feeding issues but certainly not teething.

Following a few weeks of crankiness I started to realize that what people were telling me could actually be true - he could in fact be an early teether. Until this point I was totally unaware that teething could start this early so I was grateful that I had people to point the symptoms out to me.

If your little one has been inexplicably fussy, he could be teething. Here are 6 early signs to watch for, keep in mind they often come a few at a time.

1. Sucking on fists - This is one of the first signs and often comes before anything else.

2. Lots of Drool! If your little one os drooling all over the place, brace yourself teeth are not far away!

3. Lack of Appetite - It can be quite painful for little ones to suck during times of teething so a lack of interest in feeding can often be a major sign that teeth are one their way. I find this was most common just before the first 2 teeth broke through.

4. Crankiness - If your baby is inexplicably cranky and randomly so - it's often yea old teeth that are stirring up the drama.

5. Mild Fever - If your babies temperature is elevated it could be teething.

6. Sore and Swollen Gums - Babies gums often swell up just before they are about to break teeth.

All babies develop at different rates. While your friends may be telling you that their little ones only broke their first teeth at 7 months it is very possible that you could have an early teether on your hands.
