Mononucleosis Treatments

Mononucleosis is a viral infection which effects your white blood cells. The virus called the kissing disease has been present for many generations. The virus is contracted through saliva. The use of sharing utensils, glasses, or lipstick can contain saliva as well as kissing. Some of the symptoms are fatigue, headache, sore throat and possibly pain in the upper left quadrant of the abdomen. The part of the abdomen is your spleen, which filters your blood that contains the virus. You may notice when it is hard to swallow it may be affecting your lymph glands. Simple blood tests will test for this virus. Seeing white spots in your throat and the doctor feels an enlargement of your spleen or lymph glands he will order several natural solutions that will assist on your road to recovery. Recovery will be different for patients. This is a virus and does not respond well to antibiotics.

Some of the other self mononucleosis treatments include throat lozenges and gargling with warm water so that you can soothe your throat. You need to make sure that you do not become dehydrated and that you are constantly drinking fluids. Depending on how sick you are, determines the amount of rest that you are going to need. If you are very sick, then you should not do anything that consists of lots of moving around. One of the worst things that you can do is to go out and play some sort of contact sport.

These white blood cells actually attack red blood cells that are infected by the herpes type virus that causes the mononucleosis symptom of tiredness. Red blood cells are needed to fulfill all the functions of a healthy body. White blood cells are needed to attack and to kill invading virus organisms. When the body is fighting an attack by an invading organism, it will signal a shut down of activity and actually initiate fatigue. The body needs to concentrate all of its internal functions into destroying the invading viral attack.

Going to a doctor, he will check to see if your lymph nodes are swollen. Sometimes your spleen or your liver will be swollen and they will check for that because it can be a very direct indicator as to if you have mono or not. The doctor will probably want to do some blood work on you to confirm if you have mono the kissing disease or not. If you have a higher than normal white blood count the chances are that you do have mono the kissing disease.

When a person has mononucleosis there is danger of the spleen rupturing. This is because the spleen enlarges due to the illness. It is for this reason that it is highly recommended that people with mononucleosis not engage in any activity such as a contact sport that could raise the possibility of the spleen being injured. The time period to remain free of any strenuous exercise is customarily one month.
